NewsTimes: Saugatuck River to Become More Fish-Friendly

A new grant will be used to open up a passageway for those migratory fish that can't negotiate the dams.

Fish that swim up the Saugatuck River from Ridgefield to Westport's shoreline might have some problems if they aren't as athletic as salmon - and not all of them are.

The river has several major dams, which can make it difficult for some fish trying to swim upriver to spawn.

An $88,000 grant from the Long Island Sound Futures Fund should help open up a new passageway stretching along three miles of stream habitat for the migratory fish.
