Organizers Seek New Home For Fairfield County Concours d'Élégance

The car show was held for the past several years at the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport, but last year it was announced that the show would not be returning to that venue.

Organizers of the have announced that the car show featuring rare and collectible automobiles will not be held this year, after they failed to secure a new venue for it.

“The hunt club declined to bring us back because they said we were stressing the facility,” Bill Scheffler, concours chairman, told the New York Times in an interview. “We are making 2012 a growing year, as finding an appropriate facility in Connecticut, or almost any part of New England in the fall, is tough.”

Scheffler said on the show website that although they had considered numerous locations for the event, “each venue we evaluated brought with it challenges… Ultimately, we concluded that none of the options enabled us to continue our steady growth over eight years and onward towards our greater goals.”

The concours started at Veterans’ Memorial Green in Westport in 2004. As the show grew in size, it moved in 2007 to the hunt club, which allowed for the addition of more show cars and related exhibits, the New York Times report states.

Organizers say they are determined to find a new home for the show and have vowed that it will return in 2013.
