UPDATE: Westport RTM Member Collapses at Wilton Board of Selectmen Meeting

Jonathan Cunitz was at a Board of Selectman meeting in Wilton to discuss Westport's plastic bag ban.

Westport resident and RTM member Jonathan Cunitz fainted during his presentation to the Wilton Board of Selectmen Monday night and was taken to Norwalk Hospital shortly afterward.

Cunitz, of RTM District 4, was speaking to Wilton officials about the success Westport has had with its ban on plastic bags in retail business when he fell silent and appeared to turn pale. He excused himself briefly and attempted to step away from the microphone and then collapsed at the podium.

Fortunately, two Wilton police officers (Chief Michael Lombardo and Captain John Lynch) were in attendance and rushed to help Cunitz, as well as area resident and anesthesiologist David Levi, who practices chiefly in Danbury.

"Dr. Cunitz's vital signs seem to be fine and they've taken him to the hospital just to make sure everything is okay."

Cunitz attended the Wilton meeting with fellow Westport RTM members Liz Milwe, Gene Seidman and Jeffrey Wieser.

Cunitz was released from the hospital and was home as of 11 p.m., according to Seidman.

As of Tuesday morning, Cunitz's wife reports that her husband is "doing just fine." He had a head cold, she said.

"It was just one of those things," she said. "He was checked out and he is fine."

In an e-mail sent Tuesday afternoon, Cunitz said he was feeling better and planned to attend tonight's meeting of the RTM.
