Snow to Continue Saturday, Maybe Sunday

Westport Weather Whiz Jacob Meisel reports.

The snow will continue throughout the day off and on.  At points in some of the heavier banding, it could be locally moderate.  The storm is far from over, and even though it is weakening, the winds will pick up, and the snow will stick around.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration expects an additional 5 inches to fall by tonight.  That may be a little high as the storm is weakening a little.  NOAA believes that the models are not handling the storm well by not putting enough moisture into it, but we will end up seeing what happens.

The storm center is just south of central Long Island and is moving due west to east.  It is then going to turn back up north and go just east of Westport.  There is a chance that we will end up getting the heaviest banding and could get between 3 to 5 inches tomorrow, but it is difficult to forecast where the banding sets up.

All you can do to forecast banding is look at the radar and extrapolate, and when that is done it would appear Westport will get strong banding for a while, but then will be in a lull until the storm moves closer.  When it does, the snow could pick up, and while not being as heavy as last night, may be moderate.

Saturday the storm will die down a little but snow will continue throughout the day.  There is a chance that some of these snow showers stick around until Sunday as well.

Monday a storm moves way off shore, and we may get a few flurries from the backlash of the storm.  Then, Wednesday into Thursday would appear the next opportunity for us to get some decent snow.  I will keep you posted as more details become clear about that, and how it may become another major snow storm.  Stay tuned!

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.
