SUV Snaps Utility Pole, Scatters Wires on Westport Road

CL&P responded to the scene and shut off the power while the vehicle was removed.

 

Westport emergency personnel responded to 146 Bayberry Lane at about 7 p.m. Monday on the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, police said.

Responding officers found that a 2008 Buick SUV, which was traveling north on Bayberry Lane, had struck a utility pole off of the northbound lane, according to police.

The collision with the utility pole caused it to snap, which brought the pole and wires down across both lanes. Westport Fire Department also responded to the accident.

The operator and lone occupant of the vehicle was treated at the scene by Westport EMS and transported to Norwalk Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Connecticut Light and Power responded to the accident and shut off the power while the vehicle was removed. The accident remains under investigation by the Westport Police Patrol Division.  

Bayberry Lane was blocked off until about 6 a.m. while CL&P crews worked to reopen the road.
