Taste of Westport Returns for Sixth Year

The local food festival will be dishing it up on May 6th.

On Thursday, Westport chefs and food lovers will gather at Earthplace to celebrate this year's Taste of Westport. The food festival, now in its sixth year, features selections from 11 favorite restaurants and a handful of specialty producers.

Among the eateries which will be serving tastings are Da Pietro's, Blue Lemon, Tengda, and Matsu Sushi. Beija Rum will be mixing Brazilian caipirinhas cocktails, Jewel of Russia will be pouring vodka and Greens Farms Liquor is supplying the wines. On the off-chance that party-goers save room for dessert, Cake Suite and the Michele's Pies will be on hand to provide the sweets.

The event is organized by CLASP Homes, a non-profit organization which aids adults with developmental disabilities and runs several group homes and apartments. The funds raised will all go to support CLASP's vocational and recreational activities.

"When we started the festival six years ago, there weren't many taste events around. We wanted to have a fundraiser and bring something to the community, as well," said Robin Hammond, CLASP development director.

"It really is the best well-priced fundraiser," said Hammond. "People are going to be able to eat and drink all they want." And the menu looks enticing. The restaurants dishing up small plates will cover a wide variety of culinary territory. Da Pietro's, which has participated in the event every year, will be serving roasted beet salad, salmon mousse or guacamole. St. Tropez is preparing beef bourguignon and apple crisp. Café Lola will be serving vichyssoise and lamb while Bobby Q will offer a sampling of ribs, pulled pork and burnt ends.

During the preview party from 6 to 7 pm, Cantering Caterer will be serving hors d'oeuvres not offered later in the evening and CT Distributors will serve a specialty cocktail. General admission is from 7 to 9 pm.
