Westport Artist to Donate to Sherwood Island 9/11 Memorial

Alberta Cifolelli of Westport, artist of the 911 inspired painting entitled "Tribute," is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of hand signed reproductions of the painting.

The proceeds will help maintain and preserve the 9/11 memorial at .

Cifolelli calls the painting her response as an artist to the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001. It portrays two flower bouquets symbolizing the towers with a New York City backdrop. “Flowers have always been a metaphor for me,” Cifolelli said. “Flowers are sent when someone dies but you also send flowers to celebrate life.”

Cifolelli has never consented to have one of her pieces reproduced – until now.

Art writer Mark Daniel Cohen singled out Tribute in an essay about Cifolelli’s show at Housatonic.

“It is stunning,” wrote Cohen. “The detonation of color - like gems set in darkness, shimmering in a near void – like the cracking of a heart.”
