Westport Beaches Reopened to Swimming

Beaches were closed Monday and Tuesday following the weekend's heavy rains.

Westport's beaches reopened to swimming at 10 a.m. this morning the Weston Westport Health District has confirmed.

The timing couldn't be better, as today's weather is forecast to be a perfect beach day: According to the National Weather Service, 85 degrees, clear skies, humidity at about 73 percent.

The town's beaches have been due to the weekend’s heavy rains.

Heavy rainfall can result in runoff that increases harmful bacteria. The department tests the water at the beaches regularly to ensure bacteria is at safe levels.
