Hanging American flags atop highway overpasses is something Chris McCormick does every year prior to the Sept. 11 anniversary in memory of the victim's who lost their lives.

McCormick, a resident of Mount Vernon, New York, and a friend were hanging flags on the Sherwood Island Connector in Westport Thursday afternoon, in addition to quite a few other locations.

"We have been doing it every 9/11 anniversary since 2002. We also hung them when Osama bin Laden died as a special occasion," McCormick said.

The flags will not make it through a harsh New England winter, though, according to McCormick. Rest assured he will be back next year to refresh the symbol of patriotism.
