Westport Firefighters Go Bald for St. Baldrick's

The Dressing Room in Westport hosts a successful St. Baldrick's fundraiser.

Many of Westport's firefighters braved bare on Sunday afternoon to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation by shaving their heads.

The event, which benefits childhood cancer research, is a way for volunteers to join in solidarity with kids fighting cancer. It was held at the Dressing Room Restaurant and organized by Courtney Nischan along with the support of her parents, Michel and Lori. Many Westport businesses donated their time as well to raffle items for the event, which raised more than $1,000 for St. Baldrick's cancer research.

Shaving heads for the event were six stylists from W Hair and Color.  Donated auction items included a Newman's Own Gift Basket, gift certificates from V Restaurant and bar, McCoy's Pub, Fred's Car Wash, W Hair and Color and a private tour of the Westport Fire Department.

Showing support for his crew by donating $25.00 per firefighter head shaved, Westport Fire Chief Chris Ackley also shaved his own head.  His wife, Jill, approved of the new bald look, smiled and gave the chief a hardy rub.
