Recognizing the impacts of the recession on Fairfield County nonprofits and the residents they support, in 2009 the foundation prioritized funding to nonprofits providing critical services in the areas of education and youth development, economic opportunity and health and human services. Along with its annual grants, the Foundation created the Safety Net Giving Circle, more than doubling a $100,000 gift from an anonymous donor to provide over $200,000 in funding to nonprofits providing food, shelter, health care, job training and other basic needs.
