Westporter of the Week: Harold Levine

Retired ad man Harold Levine works with Neighborhood Studios of Fairfield County to support arts programs in Bridgeport.

Name: Harold Levine

Age: I am 89....will be 90 in September

Occupation:  Retired.  I sold my advertising agency (Levine Huntley Schmidt and Beaver) in 1985.  The late Chet Huntley was one of my founding partners.  Presently I am Chairman of Neighborhood Studios of Fairfield County (formerly Music and Arts Center for Humanity), a Bridgeport based organization that has been providing arts enrichment for the children of Bridgeport for over 30 years.  One of the better known programs is AILEY CAMP, a summer program for middle school kids run by the faculty of the Alvin Ailey Dance School  (I served as Chairman of the Ailey Company Board for over 6 years).

How long have you lived in Westport?  My wife and I moved to Westport in 1978 and unfortunately she died about 6 years ago. I inherited my activities with Neighborhood Studioius from her, as she provided public relations and marketing for the organization for many years.

Favorite place in Westport: I enjoy walking Compo Beach and I very much enjoy lunch and dinner at the - good views, good food and friendly service!

Why Westport? We came to Westport because friends of ours, who lived near us in Freeport, Long Island, moved here and they encouraged us to look for a house near them. I have a long list of activities and I have made many friends in the community. I wish that more Westporters would find time and money to help the children in Bridgeport, they are our neighbors, and believe me...most of the children in Westport get everything, and the kids down the road a bit get very little.
