Westporters Should Stay Inside, Beware of Falling Trees

The area's on tornado watch, which means house surrounded by trees could be in danger.

Tonight will be one of the most dangerous nights in the past decade here in Westport.

There is a chance for tornados, wind damage, tidal flooding, and normal urban flooding. My best advice is to sleep on a lower floor of your house should any trees be near you, as that way you are less likely to be injured by any trees that do fall on your house. That is one of the major killers in hurricanes, as small tornados or big gusts can bring down trees on homes.

Being on a lower floor also helps protect you in case a tornado spins up in the middle of the night. There is a decent chance of a tornado tonight, so if you have a weather radio, or any radio really, keep it close to you while you sleep tonight. Get ready for a really wild night, and always stay tuned in, as it could be the difference between life and death.

Most importantly, STAY INSIDE tonight. It will be extremely dangerous outside tonight, and cars could easily get hit by falling trees.  Be prepared for the worst tonight and do not take any risks. Stay here for continuing coverage and safety tips throughout the night.
