On a drizzly Monday morning, a wrecking crew began razing the former Peppermill Steak & Fish House on 1700 Post Road E. to the ground. A new Goodwill store will be built on the land.
The historic building remained empty and fell into disrepair when the restaurant closed several years ago. In January, Goodwill Industries of Connecticut purchased the 1925 building for $3 million.
The proposed building, totaling 10,000-square-feet, has already garnered . It's expected to open in spring 2012. The current location of the thrift store is .1 miles away on 1572 Post Road E.
Before it was torn down, the Peppermill building totaled 8,149 square feet. The demolition began Monday morning, and representatives from Plainville-based D’Amico Construction Co. said the project will wrap up either Tuesday or Wednesday.
