Letter: Gavin Anderson Was Supporter of Marpe

Letter submitted in support of selectman candidate.

Editor,

My late husband and Selectman, Gavin Anderson more than two years ago was one of the earliest supporters encouraging Jim Marpe to run for First Selectman. As many of you know Gavin loved Westport first and foremost and always put the best interest of the Town above political party. He was also an excellent judge of character and very thorough in his review of all matters and recommendations.

Gavin often said that Jim Marpe was the most qualified candidate for First Selectman from either party and he hoped that Independents and Democrats would come to recognize that fact and vote accordingly for the benefit of Westport and their own self interest.

Gavin believed that Jim Marpe encompassed all the necessary qualities to be a great First Selectman. These included:

·      Strong history of civic leadership in a host of not for profit organizations

·      Deep understanding of Town government and history of consensus driven leadership on Board of Education

·      Strong moral character and love of Westport

·      Non partisan approach to problem solving

·      MBA and proven management skills and experience garnered as Senior partner with 30 year career at Accenture

Gavin believed that Jim Marpe without a doubt was the best person in Westport for the job. I’m sure if Gavin can find an absentee ballot he will be sending it in for Jim Marpe for First Selectman.  I hope you do too.

Signed,

Kendall Gardiner Anderson
