Letter: Himes Endorses Garten/Kane

Congressman Jim Himes submits letter supporting selectman candidates.

Editor,

It is with great pleasure that I write to you today to endorse Helen Garten and Melissa Kane for Selectmen of Westport. Helen and Melissa have a long and accomplished record of public service in Westport as well as the knowledge and vision to lead the town over the next four years and beyond.

Having served on my town’s Board of Estimate and Taxation, I understand the value that strong financial management lends to a town. Helen and Melissa’s record of leadership in Westport certainly sets the framework for a well managed and financially sustainable future, as we saw when Helen led Westport out of the worst recession the town had seen in decades. With that kind of expertise at the helm, Westport will be free to reinvest in the natural and historic resources that give the town its unique character and about which I know Helen and Melissa care deeply.

I also know that they are deeply committed to a transparent and responsive style of governance, and will maintain the same open-door policy they kept throughout their many years of collective service on the Board of Finance and RTM. I am proud to support Helen and Melissa for Selectmen and I hope you will join me in doing so this November.

Signed,

Jim Himes
