Letter: Marpe/Kaner - The Right Choice At The Right Time

Letter submitted in support of selectman candidates.

Editor,

We have known Jim Marpe personally for many years, and have long been impressed with how tirelessly and selflessly he has worked to make our town a better place to live.

Together with Avi Kaner, Westport is exceptionally fortunate to have two deeply experienced business executives seeking to serve in the top town government positions. Following upon their exemplary histories of public service, with each having served as Chairman of the Board of Education and the Board of Finance, respectively, the Marpe/Kaner ticket presents us with the unique and timely combination of professional expertise, business acumen, creativity and extraordinary commitment now needed to manage Westport efficiently and effectively. In these prior roles, both of these leaders had unvarnished and proven records of consensus-building and bipartisan cooperation; and in these contexts, we could not imagine a better qualified team to understand and manage the educational and financial needs of our community.

Westport is now presented with two very clear alternative tickets to lead our town for the next four years. Both Jim and Avi have long histories of positive and true value-added service to Westport, with each having worked effectively, successfully and wholly devoid of partisanship with both sides of the aisle on their respective Boards.

For us, a vote for Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner as our next First and Second Selectman is a very easy choice. And, we hope that everyone else in our community will appreciate the extraordinary talent and dedication of this team, and will join us in voting for both of them on November 5th.
