Roundtable Discussion: Trends in Computing

The July CTPC meeting will be another round table discussion. This format is working well for us in between programs. Last month’s discussion about Artificial Intelligence and Super Artificial Intelligence had great participation.

This month we’ll discuss current trends in computing. For example:

The move away from desktop and laptop hardware toward smartphones and tablets: Larger, more powerful tablets are now hitting the market bundled with special stands, wireless keyboards and mice that let them serve both as a mobile device and as a desktop unit.

Mobile devices: How much do you use it? What tasks do you perform that require a computer other than the mobile device? If you don’t have a smartphone or tablet, have you shopped for one? What appeals to you and what doesn’t.

Cloud Computing: Do you use it? Do you trust it? What platform(s) do you use ... Google Drive, One Drive, Drop Box, something else? Is the free storage offered by most services enough for your needs? Do you think they’ll suck us in with free storage and low rates – then start charging us more as we grow more dependent?

Lots to talk about. So please come weigh in on these or other topics. Visitors are welcome.

Richard Frisch will host Random Access as well where attendees will have a chance to present problems they are encountering and get help from others.

Note we have a new location: the United Congregational Church of Norwalk, 275 Richards Avenue Norwalk, CT. Refreshments at Uncle Joe’s will follow for those who want to join us.
