Westport Historical Society Presents: A Play Reading: Drama of a Promising Life Derailed

The story of a violinist whose career is
shattered by an accident unfolds at WHS on Thursday, July 31, when Fifth Letter
Productions presents a reading of Kevin Daly’s play “Leo Teller.”

“Leo Teller” tracks nearly fifty years in the
life of a New Haven
family, beginning in 1965 when Teller, a Hungarian immigrant, and his
pregnant wife move to a two-room apartment.  Teller takes a job at a
garment factory and will tell anyone who listens that he was once a promising
violinist before his hand was broken on a train to Auschwitz.

Fifth Letter is a professional Actors Equity company founded two years ago by
Elizabeth Donnelly and Ed Walsh, who met as undergraduates in Fairfield University’s
theater program. According to its mission statement, the troupe seeks “not only
to entertain, but to challenge and inspire our audiences and produce work that
examines the human spirit and provokes us to better ourselves.” Since its
founding, the company has produced new works by Connecticut playwrights as well as staged
readings as benefits for local organizations.

It promises to be an evening of well-acted
drama in a cozy, informal setting.
