“WESTPORT WOMAN’S CLUB’S YANKEE DOODLE FAIR RETURNS JUNE 12-15”

Once again on Father’s Day Weekend, “kids of all ages” will gather at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Avenue, to enjoy one of the town’s oldest and best-loved family events, The Westport Woman’s Club’s Yankee Doodle Fair.  This year Westport’s last remaining annual family Fair opens Thursday, June 12, 6 PM to 10 PM and continues Friday, 6 PM to 10 PM, Saturday, 1 PM to 10 PM and Sunday, 1 PM to 5 PM.Says WWC President, Mary Lee Clayton, “For 107 years, the Westport Woman’s Club has been raising funds for local needs.  We started by building sidewalks on Main Street and through the years we have brought about the development of Compo Beach and created hot meals and healthcare for our schools.  The Fair is our largest fundraiser.  Its proceeds support our grants to community service agencies, need-based scholarships for Staples students and the much-needed Food Closet for the Town of Westport.”The Yankee Doodle Fair will once again feature carnival rides and games from Stewart Amusements. Returning are the ever-popular Ferris Wheel, Flying Dumbo, Kiddie Cars, Basketball Toss, Rope Ladders, Carousel and Everybody-Wins-Fishing, along with the spectacular Ali Baba and breath-taking Zero Gravity, among others.  New this year – pay one price unlimited rides wristbands will be available all the days of the Fair, including Friday and Saturday nights!  The Westport Woman’s Club’s Face Painting and Sand Art are back for younger children. Pearl Odyssey returns as well.In the air-conditioned Auditorium, our Gourmet Group will hold their highly-anticipated Bake Sale featuring home-made baked goods sure to please every taste!  Enjoy a cup of coffee or a cold drink while you make your selections or browse through our Yankee Doodle Fair Cookbook (available for $5)Fairgoers will have the opportunity throughout the Fair to buy tickets for the Raffle, as well as the Lucky Prize Drawing.  The winning tickets will be selected at 4 PM on Sunday, Father’s Day. It is not necessary for the winners to be there for the drawing to claim the fabulous prizes.  The Raffle Grand Prize is $1000; second prize, a $500 gift card redeemable at Williams Sonoma; third prize, a trio of black, silver and white jewelry (necklace, bracelet and earrings) from Lux, Bond and Green, valued at $285; and fourth prize, a Kindle  Paperwhite with leather case and car charger, valued at $180.  Thanks to Westport’s very generous merchants and restaurants, there are also more than 50 separate gifts and gift certificates in the Lucky Prize Drawing tent on the upper level.At the Food Court, Westport Chinese Take-out will be back with everyone’s favorite Asian food.  The Blue Lemon will be joining the fair this year and will feature grilled chicken, burgers, cheeseburgers, lobster rolls and corn on the cob; Westport Pizza will be providing cheese pizza and salads and Skip’s vintage Good Humor Truck will be on hand with ice cream treats.  In addition the members of the Westport Woman’s Club will be selling cold beverages and water for the benefit of our community services grants and scholarships. Resnick Investment Advisors is once again our major sponsor. HSBC Bank is our Program Partner.
