Harvest Fest at the Wakeman Town Farm

Westport Green Village Initiative ("GVI") will host a Harvest Fest at Wakeman Town Farm & Sustainability Center on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at 134 Cross Highway.  The event represents GVI's first official fundraiser and is intended to bring the community together to experience the farm and support its mission.  Guests will enjoy a casual, fun evening under a tent with cocktails, local fare, live music and a silent auction.

Wakeman Town Farm was created by GVI when it leased the historic landmark from the Town of Westport in December 2009 and initiated a significant renovation of the original farmhouse with the help of several local benefactors.  It is an organic demonstration homestead and farm established to educate and inspire the greater community about local healthy food production, responsible land stewardship and sustainable practices.

With the renovation of the farmhouse completed, the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) pickup location in full-swing, the construction of raised vegetable beds, chicken coops, rabbit hutches, picnic tables and farm stands, and a harvest planted, GVI enthusiastically welcomes the community to celebrate the evolution of Wakeman Town Farm from noble idea to local working farm.
