Westport Republican Town Committee To Hold Caucus To Select New Members January 10th

Opportunity for Westport's Republican voters to get involved in the local Republican party. Caucuses to select 2012-2013 Republican Town Committee to be held on Jan. 10 at 8:00 p.m.

Building on successes in the recent local elections, Westport Republicans are gearing-up for an incredible 2012. This year members of the Westport Republican Town Committee (RTC) will have an exciting opportunity, as they will be very involved in supporting the Republican nominee for President, candidates for the U.S. Senate and Congress, and Republicans running for the Connecticut state legislature.  Registered Republicans can get involved simply by attending the RTC caucuses on January 10, 2012. All registered Republicans in the nine Representative Town Committee districts are encouraged to participate in the caucuses by running for a seat on the Committee or by supporting candidates at the caucuses.  The caucuses will meet at 8:00 p.m. at the polling locations for each voting district.  RTM districts 1 and 9 will meet at Saugatuck Elementary School, RTM district 2 will meet at Kings Highway School, RTM districts 3 and 8 will meet at Coleytown Middle School, Districts 4 and 5 will meet at Greens Farms Elementary School, and RTM Districts 6 and 7 will meet at Long Lots Elementary School.

There are more than 50 current members of the Westport RTC, including all Republican elected officials in Westport who serve as ex-officio members. The Town Committee meets at 8 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, usually at the Westport Town Hall. The main responsibility of the Republican Town Committee is to select the best candidates to run for public office and then to support the candidates’ campaigns.  Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, the State House and State Senate are frequent guests of the RTC, and members will have the opportunity to get to know the candidates in this critical election year. In 2013 the focus will be on electing Republican candidates for town wide positions such as Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Board of Education, Planning and Zoning Commission, among others.

If you are interested in participating in the caucuses, or would like more information about caucus locations or the Westport Republican Town Committee, please contact Westport RTC Chairman Bob Zappi atbzappi@catalyst.com or 203-454-3168.
