Dear Friends of Koko,
Koko FitClub has teamed up with GreenSneakers on a national basis to collect gently used sneakers for redistribution to those in need around the world. In addition, GreenSneakers will donate $0.50 for every pound of sneakers it receives to ANSWER, a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering research on and educating and supporting individuals and families living with autism and Asperger's Syndrome.
As originally conceived, Steve Knowlton, an ultra long distance runner and Koko member, planned to run from San Francisco to New York City, a distance of 3,100 miles, in a world record 45 days to raise awareness of and funds for autism and Asperger's. Unfortunately, Steve, who had successfully completed a 3,700 mile run from Seattle, WA to Key West, FL two years ago, had to retire from the field due to extremely painful swelling of his limbs. As a tribute to him and in support of two worthy causes, we hope you will find a pair or two of sneakers which have passed their prime and bring them with laces tied together to our Ridgefield or Westport location during staffed hours (See below) from Saturday, June 15, to Sunday, June 30.
If you give us your sneakers, we will offer those of you who are not already Koko members $50 off on your enrollment fee when you join Koko. In addition, all will receive a coupon worth $10 off on a new pair of sneakers from ASF Sports of Westport or Kilometers of Ridgefield.
