GOP Registrar, Former Selectman Bob Lasprogato Dies at 71

In addition to his public service, Westport resident Bob Lasprogato was a well known musician, actor, and member of the community.

Robert Lasprogato, Republican Registrar of Voters and former selectman, died Monday at the age of 71.

"With the death of Bob Lasprogato, Westport has lost not only a highly respected public servant, but a man who made it his life calling to help others," First Selectman Gordon Joseloff said Tuesday.

Lasprogato had been hospitalized since May 19 following to a heart-related event, WestportNow reports. He died at Norwalk Hospital.

Funeral services have yet to be announced.

He served as selectman from April 2006 to November 2009 and was elected the Republican Registrar of Voters in 2010.

“Bob’s community volunteerism and involvement in many civic activities was legendary," Joseloff said. "He used his talents in music, the theater, and broadcasting to aid and promote many worthy causes that will miss his presence."

In addition to being a public servant, Lasprogato played the drums for his group, Uptown Jazz -- just one aspect of his storied career with jazz.

The retired radio disk jockey also acted in films, television shows, and on stage. His filmography includes spots on "30 Rock," the final episode of "The Sopranos," and "Bernie Madoff Securities."

He served as a member of the Sons of the American Revolution as he had an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War, Lasprogato wrote on his website.    Lasprogato was well known in the community, as both an elected official, an actor in Westport Community Theatre productions, a member of the Sunrise Rotary club, and just around town.

Saundra Clements of Westport has a very special memory involving Lasprogato's role as an appointed justice of the peace.

"He married my husband and I," Clements said.

Joseloff offered "deepest condolences" to Lasprogato's wife, Joan, and their family.

"Bob left a lasting mark on Westport that will ensure his community spirit continues.”
