Former Westport Editor Supports Rubin for State Rep.

A letter to the editor from former Westport News Sports Editor Eliot Schickler.

Dear Westport Voter,

In my close-to 12-year tenure as Westport News sports editor, I had the privilege of getting to know the Town of Westport.

One constant while covering the local sports teams was getting to know Stephen Rubin, who is a credit to the town and the local sports scene, from his volunteering countless hours for Westport PAL and at the concession stand for Staples football games. He has always been a strong advocate for the sports programs and is a tireless advocate for everyone in town.

Because of what Stephen Rubin has contributed to the town in various roles, coupled with his knowledge on the issues facing the town and state, I endorse his candidacy for State Representative and urge everyone in the district to vote for him. He combines a philosophy of fiscal restraint and moderation and is willing to spend in areas where it's needed.

The endorsement isn't based on party loyalty because I believe in endorsing the individual, not the party. In fact, I'm voting for President Obama and Rep. Chris Murphy for U.S. Senate, but I feel Stephen Rubin is the vastly superior candidate for the office of State Representative and if I lived in Westport, I'd be voting for him too.

Please vote for Stephen Rubin on Nov. 6. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Eliot Schickler
