A Fake Burglary, a Real Bill, and a Nap Behind the Wheel

Unusual arrests and incidents from around the region.

A report of  led Fairfield Police to the area of Sturges Road on Tuesday. According to police, officers located the youths and determined that the "rifle" was an unloaded BB gun being used as a prop for a YouTube video about the destruction of an SAT book. One of the youths was also said to be carrying a switchblade, but with a comb in place of the knife.

A Stamford man reportedly told police he was "just sleepy and tired" — not drunk — and passed out behind the wheel. Several passing drivers dialed police to report a man slumped over the steering wheel of his red Lincoln. Police said it took arriving officers several progressively louder knocks on the driver's side window to wake the 52-old-man, who was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Three New York state residents  after allegedly asking a Wilton Police officer for directions despite having marijuana in the car. The lost trio flagged down the officer, police said, and while giving directions, he began to detect an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The officer searched the car and found a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe containing marijuana residue, according to police. None of the three claimed possession of the drug.

A 28-year-old Fairfield woman  in order to try to collect money from an insurance company. According to police, the woman falsely claimed in April that about $1,600 worth of electronics were stolen from her home. Police said there was no sign of forced entry to the Garden Drive residence and that officers determined that the woman and her husband had staged the burglary.

A 19-year-old Westport woman charged with possession of marijuana after police stopped her on suspicion of passing a counterfeit $100 bill — . According to police, a local merchant alerted them that the woman may have tried to use a counterfeit bill and that she was stopped in her car nearby. When police located the woman, she reportedly said she was trying get change for the bill that her mother had given her. Though officers later determined that in fact the bill was, in fact, genuine, police said a search of the woman and her car turned up a bag of marijuana and related drug paraphernalia, leading to her arrest.
