Accident Leaves Car Straddling Gully

Driver receives minor injuries; declines transport to hospital.

Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident Saturday afternoon where a woman’s car ended up straddling a gully carrying a brook.

Reported at 3:18 p.m., the woman was southbound on the Sherwood Island connector when she lost control of her car, went through a guard rail, and ended up in front of 877 Post Rd. East.

In a news release, the Fire Department said the gully was about six feet deep.

It said firefighters placed a 24-foot extension ladder alongside the car to serve as a bridge and then assisted the woman out of the vehicle.

The woman was checked by Westport emergency medical service personnel. She declined being taken to a hospital.
