Blotter: Fight Leads to Drugs, Weapons Charges

Arrests from May 6-8.

A scuffle on a park overlooking the Saugatuck River led to drug charges for two of the three men involved. According to police, an officer heard the fight coming from the small park across from Raymond Place on the night May 8. The men stopped fighting, but the officer found marijuana and a black BB gun lying on the ground, which appeared to be a real firearm.

Cody Ropiak, 19, of Riverside Avenue, was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, threatening, breach of peace, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $1,500 and he is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court on May 18. [Name Removed], 19, of Bridgeport, was charged with possession of marijuana and creating a public disturbance. His bail was set at $1,500. The third person involved, Joshua Tucker, 20, was issued an infraction for creating a public disturbance.

Milagros Astacio, 44, of Bridgeport, was arrested on May 4 at 11:50 p.m. on a charge of second-degree failure to appear. Astacio’s bail was set at $1,000 and he is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on May 16.

Michael Roberts, 46, of Bridgeport, was arrested on May 4 at 10:44 p.m. on a charge of sixth-degree larceny. According to the report, Fairfield police were notified that Roberts had his wallet robbed near the Westport town line. He later admitted that he had fabricated the story, and police found a reusable bag full of items allegedly stolen from Stop and Shop. The total value was $75.82. Roberts was released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on May 16.

Ronald Hill, 26, of Bridgeport was arrested on May 6 at 1:55 p.m. on a charge of second-degree failure to appear. According to the report, Hill’s bail was set at $1,500 and he’s scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on May 16.

A Stratford man’s tinted windows brought him charges of possession of marijuana, second-degree failure to appear and several motor vehicle charges. According to the report, Jonathan Cann, 22, was pulled over on May 7 for having illegal tinted windows. Marijuana and paraphernalia were found in the vehicle. Cann’s bail was set at $2,500 and he’s scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk for the drug charges on May 18.

Jeffrey Dezso, 51, of Norwalk, was arrested on May 7 on a charge of second-degree failure to appear. According to the report, Dezso was stopped for a motor vehicle violation, but police saw he was wanted for failing to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk. His bail was set at $5,000 and he’s scheduled to appear in court on May 17.

Monica Schutz, 37, of Palmieri Road, was arrested on May 7 at 10 p.m. on charges of third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. According to the report, Shutz was in a domestic dispute with family members when she allegedly damaged a necklace and threw a digital camera against the wall. She is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on May 9.

A Bridgeporter was found with crack cocaine and marijuana after being pulled over for having a suspected stolen license plate. To boot, he reportedly gave a false name to police. Chappelle Brown, 22, of Bridgeport, was arrested on May 8 at 5:25 p.m. on charges of second-degree failure to appear, criminal impersonation, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and sixth-degree larceny. His bail was set at $30,000 and he’s scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk for the drug and motor vehicle charges on May 18.
