UPDATE: Westport Man Identified in Apparent Suicide

The man was reportedly spotted by a passerby in downtown Westport Monday morning.

 

responded this morning to a report of a body laying in the wooded edge of the Elm Street parking lot in downtown Westport.

Police identified the man as 48-year-old James Barber of Westport. Officers closed off the lot shortly after the discovery.

“Responding officers located a white male in the wooded area who was deceased from an apparent self inflicted gun shot wound,” said Westport Police Captain Sam Arciola.

 The Westport Police Department Detective Bureau was on scene handling the investigation, according to Arciola.

The body was transported to the state medical examiner's office for examination, according to Arciola.
