Burglary on Manitou Road Was Drunken, Disoriented Youth, Police Say

No charges are being brought against the youth for now, police said.

An investigation into the burglary that occurred at 20 Manitou Road on July 24 has revealed that the person who entered the home was an intoxicated local youth who had been at a nearby house party.

According to police, the youth had become separated from a group of friends who were attempting to travel by foot to another party at a nearby location.

Police said after the youth separated from the group he became disoriented and thought he was entering the home where the second party was.

In the original report dated July 24, police said the burglary occurred at about 1:40 a.m. while the homeowners were sleeping.

According to the report, the homeowners were awakened by the sounds of their outside bedroom door opening. The homeowners reported that an individual with a flashlight then entered the bedroom.

Upon startling the homeowners, the individual exited the home, fleeing towards the Longshore Golf Course, which borders the homeowner’s property, police said.

After calling the police, the homeowners reportedly observed a full size sedan-style vehicle slowly drive past the home in an easterly direction.

Police called a K-9 Unit from out of Monroe to the scene, but the dog was unable to track.

Today’s report does not indicate whether the youth turned himself in or if he was contacted by police.
