Burning Wires, Electrical Fire Leaves Westporters Powerless

Connecticut Light & Power reported approximately 200 Westport customers were without power at 8:45 p.m.

Westport Fire Department responded to Greens Farms Road and Turkey Hill Road South at about 7:30 p.m. Monday on a report of wires down and burning, according to Westport Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Kronick.

Upon arrival units found a power line down with an electrical fire burning in the trees and landscape adjacent to the road, Kronick said.

Greens Farms Road was closed from Turkey Hill South to New Creek Road.  Westport Fire Department remained on scene until the power was shut off and the fire was extinguished.  Connecticut Light & Power reported approximately 200 Westport customers were without power at 8:45 p.m. CL&P could not give an estimation on when power would be resored, Kronick said.
