Car Crashes Into Saugatuck River

The driver was not seriously injured in the morning crash.

A car careened into the Saugatuck River Monday monring after the driver slid out of control at a curve on Imperial Avenue.

Police were the first to the scene at approximately 8:20 a.m. The driver was outside the vehicle, which was a few feet into the river, and refused to be transported to Norwalk Hospital. The car did not leak fuel or liquids into the river, according to a press release. Firefighters had to cut a tree that was blocking the car's removal and the car was finally removed from the river by a local towing company.

The last fire department vehicle left the scene at 9 a.m. and the cause of the accident is under their investigation.
