Car Crashes into Westport Home

Westport Police, EMS and Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed through a home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officer Marc Heinmiller was the first emergency unit on scene, and located the vehicle, a 2005 Mazda sedan and made contact with the driver, 25-year-old Zexiao Lu of Bridgeport.  A sweep was done of the residence that confirmed the home was unoccupied and the resident was located at a neighbor’s house.

A preliminary investigation into the accident found that Lu was driving eastbound on Post Road East in the inside lane approximately 100 feet east of Maple Avenue. He was travelling close to another vehicle driving eastbound in the outside lane.  The operator, Daniella Stavreva-Zlatareva, 42, of Southport, was driving a 2010 Honda CRV and made an unsafe lane change to the inside lane which caused Lu to lose control and cross all westbound lanes of Post Road East, crash through the wooden perimeter fence of the properties at 1655 Post Road East, go airborne and crash into one of the units at 1655 Post Road East. No injuries were reported.

Stavreva-Zlatareva was issued an infraction for violating CT general Statute 14-232, unsafe lane change, which carries a fine of $132.
