Code Red Alert Helps Find Missing 82-Year-Old Man

The missing man is an Alzheimer's patient.

The Westport Police department received a call from a Vermont resident around 11:55 a.m. today stating that she was at the Westport Town Hall while her husband, an 82-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer's was waiting in the vehicle.  He had walked away from the area and she was unable to locate her husband.

Police immediately set up a perimeter and a police canine started searching for the missing person.  A Code Red message was broadcasted to residents alerting them.

A short time after the broadcast, a motorist received the Code Red call on her cell phone.  She pulled over to listen to the message and happened to be in the area and saw the man sitting on a stone wall in the area of the dog park on the Baron's Property North on North Compo Road near East Main Street.  He was transported back to Westport Town Hall and evaluated by Westport EMS then reunited with his wife.  The husband was missing for about 90 minutes.
