Construction Accident Sends One to Hospital

The accident occurred in Saugatuck.

The Westport Fire Department responded to a call for medical assistance in Saugatuck today where an injured construction worker had been struck in the head with a 20-foot long metal drilling pipe.

The Westport Police and EMS responded with the Saugatuck Engine Company around 10 a.m.

Co-workers had discovered the worker lying in mud alongside a geo-thermal well drilling rig.  Firefighters along with Police and EMS administered care, packaged the patient, and EMS transported the worker to Norwalk Hospital Emergency Room.

Police and Fire officials remained on the scene while OSHA conducted a routine investigation.  OSHA released the scene and last units cleared at 12:16 p.m. this afternoon.
