Driver Hits Curb, Citizen Assists in Westport DUI Arrest

A concerned driver notified police after seeing a vehicle cross the double-yellow line and strike a curb.

 

Another drunk driver is off the road thanks to a concerned citizen’s ability to react to a scary situation.

Westport police officers responded to the area of Turkey Hill Road North and Post Road East at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday on a report of an erratic driver, police said.

Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The officer detected alcohol on the driver’s breath when speaking with him and noted that the driver appeared to be confused and was slow to answer questions, police said.

The man failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He submitted the following breath test results: .134 and .129.

charged 69-year-old Jonathan Jaeger, of 322 Greens Farms Road, Westport, with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Jaeger was released after posting $500 bond. He is due in Norwalk Superior Court August 8.
