Driver Hospitalized After Car Hits Tree in Westport

One person has been hospitalized with unspecified injuries after their vehicle crashed into a tree Tuesday in Westport.

The accident took place in front of 8 Bride St. at approximately 10:01 a.m. when a late model Toyota Highlander went head on with the tree, forcing both front airbags to deploy and causing heavy damage to the front of the vehicle, according to Deputy Fire Chief Robert Kepchar.

The driver was evaluated on scene and placed on a backboard, removed from the vehicle and transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS. The extent of the driver’s injuries was unknown, according to Kepchar.
