Police witnessed a driver nearly strike a curb before initiating a traffic stop.

Westport police witnessed a driver nearly strike a curb while sharply veering into the right lane on Saugatuck Avenue at about 1 a.m. Friday, police said.

As the vehicle turned on the entrance ramp of I-95, the driver failed to use the directional signal and was subsequently stopped by police, according to the arrest report.

The officer detected alcohol on the driver’s breath while speaking to him, police said. He failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
