Driver Nearly Strikes Curb, Gets DUI in Westport

Police witnessed a driver nearly strike a curb before initiating a traffic stop.

 

Westport police witnessed a driver nearly strike a curb while sharply veering into the right lane on Saugatuck Avenue at about 1 a.m. Friday, police said.

As the vehicle turned on the entrance ramp of I-95, the driver failed to use the directional signal and was subsequently stopped by police, according to the arrest report.

The officer detected alcohol on the driver’s breath while speaking to him, police said. He failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

The driver submitted to a breath test with the following results: 0.102 and 0.091, police said.

Westport police charged 40-year-old Matthew Longcore, of Norwalk, with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and improper turn/stop – no signal.

Longcore posted a $500 cash bond and was later released. He is due in Norwalk Superior Court on September 28.
