An officer on patrol witnessed a driver make a wide right turn from Riverside Ave. onto Bridge Street, which caused the vehicle to travel over the double yellow lines when approaching the bridge, police said.
The driver then veered to the right and almost struck the bridge with the passenger side of the vehicle, police said.
The driver continued from Bridge Street onto Compo Road South where she nearly struck a curb that was nearby a telephone pole, police said. After initiating a traffic stop, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her breath, according to the police report.

The driver failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. She submitted to a breath test with the following results: 0.160 and 0.165, according to the police report.
Westport police charged Thankdeka Mbutuma, 27, of 16 Colony Road, with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Mbutuma was later released after posting a $500 cash bond. She is due in Norwalk Superior Court December 12.
