Fire Breaks Out In Izzo's Nursery

The fire was traveling across the ceiling when crews arrived, but Westport firefighters quickly brought it under control.

The Westport Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out Thursday night in the nursery at Izzo's Country Gardens and Landscaping.

The fire was traveling across the ceiling of the 1431 Post Road East business when Westport firefighters arrived just before 6 p.m. on May 1. Engine 5 was first on scene, and the crew quickly knocked down the fire before it could spread, according to an incident report from Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin.

The Post Road was temporarily closed during rush hour while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, because a water supply line had to be extended to the nearest hydrant across the street.
