Fire Department Frees Woman Trapped Under Chair Lift

The last fire department left the scene at 1:48 p.m.

The Westport Fire Department responded to a home on Cooper Lane around 1 p.m. today where a woman was trapped under a stair lift chair in her house.

Arriving firefighters were directed to the second floor where the homeowner had her foot trapped under her medical lift chair. Firefighters quickly immobilized the chair to prevent further injury and then worked to free the woman from the lift, which took about 10 minutes.

Firefighters checked her for injury and then Westport EMS took her to Norwalk Hospital. The woman had been attempting to use the lift to get down the stairs when she slipped, pinning her left leg and foot under the chair, according to Assistant Chief Robert Kepchar.
