Fire Department Keeps Car from Flipping Over

The Westport Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.

The Westport Fire Department responded to a request from the Westport Police Department around noon on Sunday to help stabilize a vehicle perched on the side of Wilton Road after an accident, according to a news release.

There were no injuries in the accident and the driver was able to get out of the car on his own.  Upon arrival the Rescue Company immediately set up a cable to a large tree uphill to prevent the car from tipping over.

Working with Engine Company 2 from Headquarters they then set up a device called the “grip hoist” to slowly lower the car in concert with the tow truck operator to prevent the car rolling over as it was lowered from the embankment.
