An electrical outlet shorted out in the cafeteria Friday night at Nyala Properties, 60 Nyala Farms Road, resulting in minimal damage. The Westport Fire Department was called to the scene at about 7:15 after a fire alarm alerted security personnel to smoke in the building.
A large freezer unit in the cafeteria had shorted out at the outlet, which was above the unit. The burning was confined to the electrical plug and outlet. Power to the outlet was shut down and the plug was removed. The property supervisor, who had been called to the scene, handled the removal of the damaged equipment. The last fire unit left the scene at 8:16 PM.
