The 22-year-old nephew of Giants owner John Mara turned himself into police on Friday on charges that he allegedly hit a man over the head with a bottle at a New Year's Eve party, according to release sent by the Fairfield Police Department.

The suspect, whose name is also John Mara of Hammond Ridge Road in Mt. Kisco, NY, is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He posted a $150,000 bond and is due to appear in court on March 8.

According to police, the incident occurred on Fairfield Beach Road near Fairfield University and the victim, whose name has not been released, received "serious life-threatening injuries that required immediate surgery."

Mara's lawyer Willam Dow told lohud.com that Mara plans to plead not guilty to the charges. A spokesperson for the Giants said no comment would be released by the team.
