Lexus Smashes Into Compo Shopping Center Store in Westport

The store was closed at the time of the accident.

The responded to Compo Shopping Center at 6 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a car that had been driven into a building.

“Upon arrival units found a Lexus SUV had jumped the curb and drove approximately two feet into the Painters Supply Store, breaking both display windows,” said Westport Fire Department Assistant Chief William Dingee.

The driver was uninjured and the store, which was closed when the accident occurred, suffered minor structural damage, Dingee said.

Firefighters remained on scene for an hour while the building official, property manager and business owner assessed the damage, according to Dingee

Firefighters worked to remove the shattered glass and mark off the area on the sidewalk in front of the store until it was boarded up by a contractor, Dingee said.
