License Plate Thief Charged with Larceny in Westport

The plates on the suspect's car belonged on a stolen car, police said.

Officers initiated a traffic stop at the corner of Post Road East and Maple Avenue after witnessing a man drive by in a car that had a large crack running across the length of the driver's side window of the front windshield, police said.

Police determined that the registration plates on the vehicle the man was operating were reported stolen, according to the police report. The officer learned that the plates belonged on a stolen vehicle, but not the vehicle that the man was operating.
