Metro North Death Confirmed as Suicide

An investigation confirms many riders' and officials' suspicions.

As a result of eyewitness accounts, Metropolitan Transit Authority police have confirmed that Wednesday's death of a trespasser on the Norwalk train line was not an accident.

"It was, indeed, a suicide," said Metro North spokeswoman Margie Anders. "The woman walked in front of the train and laid down on the rails."

The deceased was later identified as Ruiqing Lin, 63, of 13 Commerce St. Neither her identity nor her gender could be immediately confirmed because her body was severely disfigured from the train's impact.

As reported in Wilton Patch, a number of Wiltonians were aboard the train when it happened. Resident Al Alper said he was told fairly quickly by Metro North authorities that the death was, in fact, a suicide and another resident said the train's driver made an announcement to riders saying the same.

The incident was initially reported by the train's engineer around 7 a.m. Service was interrupted for more than five hours and eventually restored around 12:30 p.m.
