Westport police witnessed a car travelling without a license plate at the intersection of Post Road East and Maple Avenue on Friday.
When the officer initiated a traffic stop he detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from within the vehicle, police said.
The suspect produced a small sandwich bag from her purse containing a green leafy substance that was marijuana, police said.
Westport police charged 23-year-old Chastity Johnson, of Bridgeport, with failure to display plates, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, insurance coverage fails minimum requirements and possession of abandon markers. She was issued an infraction for the marijuana, police said.
Johnson is due in Norwalk Superior Court on October 1.
