One-Car Crash Slows Traffic

A green minivan hits a tree and slows traffic on Westport Road.

A one-car accident slowed traffic on Route 33 near the Westport border around 11:45 a.m. today.

Wilton police and fire crews reported said man driving a green minivan involved in the accident sustained minor injuries. The driver reportedly swerved to avoid something in the roadway and struck a tree, severely damaging his vehicle and causing its airbags to deploy.

Wilton Police Lieutenant Don Wakeman said later that there was no ambulance called to the scene, indicating the man's injuries were indeed minor.

It took emergency crews about an hour to clear the scene and Westport Road is now fully reopened.
