Driver Hospitalized After Car Hits Lights, Sign

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon on Interstate 95, between exits 17 and 18.

A car crashed into two Interstate 95 light poles and a traffic sign on Sunday afternoon. One person was hospitalized.

According to the Westport Fire Department, the accident was reported at 2:26 p.m. Upon arrival to the northbound side between exits 17 and 18, the driver was found lying on the ground but conscious.

Firefighters assisted Westport Emergency Medial Services with placing the driver on a backboard and stretcher into the ambulance for transport to Norwalk Hospital.  The car battery was disconnected and units stood by until the vehicle was removed by a flatbed truck from Westport Service Center, according to a press release.

The accident is under investigation by the state police and the Connecticut Department of Transportation is repairing the light poles and sign damaged in the incident.
